NOT YOUR AVERAGE GEAR REVIEW

HUNTING CLOTHES THAT KEEP YOUR STINK HIDDEN

What is the best way to ensure that your scent is not detected by the very smart and elusive animal that you are hunting? An old man once told me that if a deer could see like a turkey and a turkey could smell like a deer, there would be a lot of hungry hunters in the world. There is a lot of truth to that statement. However how do we keep that big ol’ nose from catching our stink?  So, I took to the internet and several opinions from hunters to give you an idea of what the best hunting clothes are in my opinion today. My #1 recommendation always get the breathable fleece on the inside. Now that may sound crazy to get breathable however it’s the activated charcoal in the suit that kills the scent and it being able to breath is imperative. They make some type of polyester blend that actually will stay cold against your skin and that is not good while hunting. Take it form me I bought a very nice expensive jacket with this type of wind/waterproofing inside and froze on my first hunt with it. So, get waterproof with fleece inside and stay dry and warm.

SCENT-LOK IS MY #1 FOR COST AND EFFECTIVNESS

Now I like the Scent-lok brand I have used it for years now. It has great fit, finish, and toughness of fabric. It also doesn’t fade very easily when washed. I have had deer come within 5-10 yards of me and never get a whiff. However, with that said I do also keep a keen eye on the winds where I am hunting. Wind is very important when hunting. With that said using the wind in combination with Scent-lok clothing seems to do the trick.

SCENT-LOK IS MY #1 FOR COST AND EFFECTIVNESS

Now I also like the Scent Blocker brand of clothing as well and have used some of it myself.  Several hunters that I performed my pseudo poll on also swear by it.  Scent Blocker is a good sturdy brand and has great quality. The material is solid, and the fabric doesn’t fade even after several washes. Fading issues are important especially if you are in the camp that believe deer see in infrared. So, something that is faded to almost white will be like a glowing caution light to a deer. So, you may not be smelled by the animal, but he surely will see you.

UNDER ARMOR SCENT CONTROL THE CADILLAC IN MY OPINION

Last but not least Under Armour Scent Control. Let me tell you this stuff is amazing for fit, finish, fading, and toughness of fabric. I really like Under Armour anything and their Scent Control is no different. The only draw back that I have with UA is the cost. I price a whole ensemble of their Scent Control clothing and it comes near to $600USD. Now I love to hunt however if my wife saw that come out of our accounts and I said yea I bought hunting clothes. I may be at the court house looking for an attorney.

So below you will see some links to the products I like and have done well for me as well as other hunters. Yes, they even have some Under Armour, some may want to spend that kind of cheddar and by all means I would too. In the end in really depends on what you like the most and your budget.
